Can't Wait Wednesday!

Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Tressa at Wishful Endings that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

I am combining CWW with Books From the Backlog hosted by Carole at Carole's Random Life in Books. This will allow me to feature some newly "rediscovered" books, which I plan on reading, alongside a new release.

This week I can't wait for
10 Blind Dates
Ashely Elston
Age/Genre: Young Adult, Contemporary, Romance
Publisher: Disney-Hyperion
Release Date: October 1, 2019
Goodreads
Sophie wants one thing for Christmas-a little freedom from her overprotective parents. So when they decide to spend Christmas in South Louisiana with her very pregnant older sister, Sophie is looking forward to some much needed private (read: make-out) time with her long-term boyfriend, Griffin. Except it turns out that Griffin wants a little freedom from their relationship. Cue devastation.

Heartbroken, Sophie flees to her grandparents' house, where the rest of her boisterous extended family is gathered for the holiday. That's when her nonna devises a (not so) brilliant plan: Over the next ten days, Sophie will be set up on ten different blind dates by different family members. Like her sweet cousin Sara, who sets her up with a hot guy at an exclusive underground party. Or her crazy aunt Patrice, who signs Sophie up for a lead role in a living nativity. With a boy who barely reaches her shoulder. And a screaming baby.

When Griffin turns up unexpectedly and begs for a second chance, Sophie feels more confused than ever. Because maybe, just maybe, she's started to have feelings for someone else . . . Someone who is definitely not available.

This is going to be the worst Christmas break ever... or is it?
Why I want to read this book

Come on! This book is screaming my name. From the adorable cover to the entire premise, it's totally my jam. There's heartbreak and holidays and family meddling. Add it up, and it should equal a fun read for me.

The Hard Count
Ginger Scott
Age/Genre: Young Adult, Contemporary, Sports, Romance
Publisher: Ginger Scott
Release Date: July 15, 2016
Goodreads
Nico Medina’s world is eleven miles away from mine. During the day, it’s a place where doors are open—where homes are lived in, and neighbors love. But when the sun sets, it becomes a place where young boys are afraid, where eyes watch from idling cars that hide in the shadows and wicked smoke flows from pipes.

West End is the kind of place that people survive. It buries them—one at a time, one way or another. And when Nico was a little boy, his mom always told him to run.

I’m Reagan Prescott—coach’s daughter, sister to the prodigal son, daughter in the perfect family. Life on top. Lies. My world is the ugly one. Private school politics and one of the best high school football programs in the country can break even the toughest souls. Our darkness plays out in whispers and rumors, and money and status trump all. I would know—I’ve watched it kill my family slowly, strangling us for years.

In our twisted world, a boy from West End is the only shining light.
Quarterback.
Hero.
Heart.
Good.
I hated him before I needed him.
I fell for him fast.
I loved him when it was almost too late.

When two ugly worlds collide, even the strongest fall. But my world…it hasn’t met the boy from West End.
Why I want to read this book

So, I bought this book back in 2017, because people were raving left and right about Scott's books. Like most books I purchase, it remained unread. However, my interest in reading something by Scott has been renewed with more positive talk about her newer releases. I am also on a YA sports-ball kick, and this sounds a little angsty and emotionally charged with some different side of the tracks romance thrown in for good measure. Sounds like a solid read to me.
What are you waiting on?

    1. I find Books from the Backlog a great motivator for me. Since I tell everyone I am going to read the book, I feel like I really have to do it. I do a One Old, One New feature too, which has been another fun way for me to read my backlist.

  15. I definitely wanna read 10 Blind Dates because confusing feelings during the holidays? YES PLEASE. And I'd like to see how this Griffin gonna win her back. And I don't know why but for some reason, the cover of The Hard Count gives me One Tree Hill vibes 🤔 Not the sport but like.. the look of the cover reminds me of the silhouette thing going on in beginning of the show's pilot episode. Okay I'm rambling but great picks! 😅😊

  18. My backlog is out of control as well. Right now I'm on a kick to make myself read one backlist book for every ARC I read. So far I've still only gotten 24 older books read this year though, so mixed success. That sports romance sounds excellent. I'm trying not to add it to my TBR but we'll see if I can hold out after you review it, lol.

  20. 10 Blind Dates sounds awesome! It sounds like it's going to be such a fun read with family setting the m.c. up on several blind dates. Are you going to read it? Thanks for introducing me to the Hard Count! I love sports romance :). I miss Miranda Keneally's books. She was one of my go to author's for sports romance. Great picks Sam!
