Rainy Day Reads!
I am not a fan of weather, when I have somewhere to be, but I love to listen to the rain as I hide out inside. I have seen many different things people look for in a rainy day read. Some people are looking for a BIG book to pass the time, a mystery, or a book with a dark mood to match the weather. Me, I prefer to counteract the weather with a lighthearted book, that will bring some sunshine into my heart, while I wait for the storm to pass. These are some lighter reads, which left me with a smile on my face and a spring in my step.
- Geekerella by Ashley Poston
- The Opposite of Always by Justin A. Reynolds
- Foolish Hearts by Emma Mills
- My So-Called Bollywood Life by Nisha Sharma
- Listen to Your Heart by Kasie West
- Isla and the Happily Ever After by Stephanie Perkins
- Starry Eyes by Jenn Bennett
- A Quiet Kind of Thunder by Sara Barnard
- The Geek's Guide to Unrequited Love by Sarvenaz Tash
- I Believe in a Thing Called Love by Maurene Goo
Yass Jenn Bennett! I totally agree that Starry Eyes is a great rainy day read, as is Geekerella! Great list!
ReplyDeleteTwo of my all time faves. They both left me grinning like a fool
DeleteStarry eyes is great for sure! Will have to check the rest of these out too :)

Starry Eyes may be my favorite Bennett book, though Daniel may be my fave of her YA love interests
DeleteI don't read according to the weather, or for the weather, so this one had me stuck a little -- but I like your list, just looking at a few of the familiar titles in this made me smile too.
ReplyDeleteMe neither, but if I did, these are the type of books I would pick
DeleteI feel like I have a permanent spot in the reader hall of shame for having never read the Anna and the French Kiss trilogy. I just never got around to it and at this point I've kind of lost interest. *sigh* But Starry Eyes is high on my TBR and I hope to get to it soon!
ReplyDeleteI feel like Anna is over hyped. I liked it, but I LOVED Isla. Do it! Read Starry Eyes. I don't think you will regret it.
DeleteI love the sound of the rain when I'm safely and warmly indoors too! This is a great list, especially agree with Jenn Bennett, Ashley Poston, Nisha Sharma & Emma Mills!
ReplyDeleteI abhor being wet and cold, but do love the sound and smell when it rains.
DeleteI bought A Quiet Kind of Thunder, but it never showed up, so I’m sad. I’ll read it someday. It’s probably good for rain because there’s “thunder” in the title.
ReplyDeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I am appalled! I hope you got a refund. Not sure if there is any real thunder in the book, but it was sweet and adorable and made me super happy.
DeleteI keep hearing great things about Geekerella. Really need to read it sometime.
ReplyDeleteHere is our Top Ten Tuesday.
Geekerella was just a super fun book with a sweet and adorable romance.
DeleteWhat a great lot of books! I love an easy read on a rainy day. I've loved some up there and have a bunch I need to get to as well.
ReplyDeleteI always love an easy read, but they are especially welcomed, when there is something working to make me grumpy (like weather of any sort)
DeleteAny and all Kasie West and Emma Mills books would be a comfort book for me, too.
ReplyDeleteThose two deliver happy feels every time for me.
DeleteThere is definitely something to be said for lighthearted reads on drizzly days. I took the same approach with my post!
ReplyDeleteMy TTT.
I always want to read that sort of book, but they are especially helpful when I am a little gloomy, and "weather" always seems to make me gloomy.
DeleteWhen I'm inside, I love rain (especially at night, when I can read curled in a blanket with a cat on my lap). I bought I Believe in a Thing Called Love when it came out, but I have yet to read it.
ReplyDeleteHappy readings! ;)
Tânia @MyLovelySecret
Thing Called Love was so fun and cute. If you find yourself in need of a little pick-me-up, I think it would do the job.
DeleteNice! It seems there's been a good split on whether people like creepy reads or light-hearted ones for rainy days! I feel like I've seen 50/50 on this today! Lol! I'm in the other 50% myself!
ReplyDeleteHere's my Tuesday Post
Have a GREAT day!
Old Follower :)
It's like you are either camp embrace the weather or camp fight the weather.
DeleteI'm the opposite -- I prefer broody and cozy reads on rainy days. I need more light-hearted reads in my life, though, so I'll definitely check out some of these. I like Kasie West, but she writes so fast that I can't keep up!
ReplyDeleteI noticed two schools of thought dominated this TTT - go with it or go against it. Lots of light hearted books featured, but also, a lot of atmospheric, moody books. KWest has been on fire lately, just turning out book after book. I am up to date though.
DeleteSuch pretty, bright covers on all of these too! I'm on a waiting list for Opposite of Always--meaning my students need to finish it so I can read it! One girl who bought her own copy has said I can borrow it if she finishes it first.
ReplyDeleteI hope you love Opposite of Always as much as I did. I actually have goosebumps right now and my eyes may be a little shiny just from thinking about it. I just loved it so much.
DeleteI'm about halfway through Starry Eyes right now and am loving it!
ReplyDeleteLennon and Zorrie were fantastic! It was a lot of fun braving the elements with them.
DeleteI'm just sitting here nodding my head as I see each book on your list. So many fantastic choices here and I'm taking notes on all of the ones I haven't read yet.
ReplyDeleteI hope you someday get to them, because they were all so delightful
DeleteI'm the opposite. The uglier the weather the scarier the book I want to read. LOL
ReplyDeleteI can understand going with the flow and embracing the gloom, especially if that's one of your go-to genres. It's sort of fabulous to have the weather enhancing your reading experience.
DeleteThe Opposite of Always sounds like such a good book. I got Listen to Your Heart at the Colorado Teen Literature Conference last weekend, so that will be good to read this summer.
ReplyDeleteKWest always does it for me, but I was so pleasantly surprised by Opposite of Always, and I know I want more from that author.
DeleteLighter reads can be nice, no doubt, on a gloomy or rainy day. Especially in summer! I love the look of Listen To Your Heart. :)
ReplyDeleteI don't necessarily read according to the weather/season, but both affect me mentally, and I do cater to my needs in that realm.
DeleteI like how you went the lighter route! I do love Isla and all of those books.

Isla was my favorite and I loved that Perkins included all the characters
DeleteI love the rain! We have a tin roof, so it makes a wonderful sound when it storms. I don't choose specific type of book when it rains, just whatever I'm reading at the time. :)
ReplyDeleteLindsi @ Do You Dog-ear? 💬
I can't say I read according to the weather or season, but since the question was asked, I thought about what I would like to read. My mood plays a big role in how I read, and I just thought about my mood when it storms, and this is what I came up with.
DeleteI'm all for crime fiction read on a rainy day, but also something light and sweet and romantic! I spy Jenn Bennett on your list! She'd be an author I'd read on a rainy day :)
ReplyDeleteGenesis @ Whispering Chapters
If I read crime fiction, I think it would be cool to go for the multi sensory approach, and pair it with a moody day.
DeleteThe sound of rain when you're curled up inside is just the best. Especially when you have a warm drink and a good book in hand to pass the time. I love some of your picks to do this with, like Geekerella, and see a couple here I want to read Like Foolish Hearts and Mt So Called Bollywood Life. I think I'll look forward to a rainy day if I have one of these to spend it with.
ReplyDeleteI think you would adore Foolish Hearts. It's just so adorable and fantastic and Mills does family and friendship and teen banter so well.
DeleteI don't have specific rainy day reads. I just work through my books regardless of weather and seasons. I do like reading when the rain is lashing against the windows though!
ReplyDeleteI would say I am more of a mood reader, but the weather definitely affects my mood.
DeleteI completely agree with A Quiet Kind of Thunder and Isla and the Happily Ever After! I was just sent a copy of My So-Called Bollywood Life and I cannot wait to read it :) And I am so excited to read Geekerella as well ^.^
ReplyDeleteI am excited for you to read Bollywood Life. I hope you like it. I have a soft spot for Sharma's books, because she features places in my neighborhood in her books.
DeleteI like to read all kinds of books and doesn't matter if it is raining or not. I like what I like. Given the choice I would pick a light romance.
ReplyDeleteMary
Mood plays a bigger role in what I will read, but I think my mood is affected by the weather, which means the weather indirectly affects my reading. Light romance is my go-to ALL the time.
