To Read or Not to Read!
Every year, when the new releases are announced, I start clicking that "to-read" button and my TBR grows exponentially. Fast forward, and now I am having second thoughts. I must admit, it is commonly early reviews that put me on the proverbial fence, and here are a few I am trying to decide, if I should or shouldn't read. Most are ARCs I kept moving down my list, but two were releases I was really excited about. What are your thoughts?
- Field Notes on Love by Jennifer E. Smith
- The Dead Queens Club by Hannah Capin
- The Case for Jamie by Brittany Cavallaro
- The Academy by Katie Sise
- Out of Left Field by Kris Hui Lee
- Screenshot by Donna Cooner
- What You Left Me by Bridget Morrissey
- Valley Girls by Sarah Nicole Lemon
- The Summer of Broken Things by Margaret Peterson Haddix
- Questions I Want to Ask You by Michelle Falkoff
Wow, every single one of these is new to me, so I don't a thing about any of them. Some of the covers totally grab my attention, though. Like Field Notes of Love, Valley Girls and Questions I Want to Ask You. Hope there are some winners in here, Sam!
ReplyDeleteI did all the YA books lingering about my TBR. I requested most of those books, because of the covers, but the synopses sound great too. It's the reviews that have me wondering if I should take the time to read one of those books or use the time to read something else. Dilemmas!
DeleteI am so excited for Field Notes on Love! I love her books. I have up on the Charlotte Holmes series so I am no help there. The rest are new to me!
ReplyDeleteSmith's last book was just OK for me, and I have been seeing meh reviews. The last Charlotte Holmes book made me nuts, but I think I might still want to see how it ends.
DeleteI haven't read any of these, so I'm afraid I'll be of no help! They all have lovely covers though.
ReplyDeleteIt's those lovely covers that made me request them. Ha!
DeleteI’m going to be 0 help, but I love the cover of What You Left Me!
ReplyDeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I think I put that book off, because it sounded too sad for me at the time, and then I forgot about it. It has a good average rating on GR, though, which is why I am still considering it.
DeleteI'm getting off to the worst start in 2019. But to be fair - I'm in the middle of moving so my books are all packed and I don't have time to read lol So I haven't been looking at what's coming out.
ReplyDeleteThe only one I'm still hoping to squeeze in is Death Prefers Blondes.

Moving is a beast! With my daughter going to college, grad school, and then relocating to Chicago, I felt like I have been moving for years. This will be the first year I don't have to move anyone. Good luck with your move!
DeleteI need to be a vampire to read all the books on my TBR. lol
ReplyDeletesherry @ fundinmental
Or maybe Cerberus - extra heads, extra eyes = more reading.
DeleteI won a copy of Out of Left Field, but ended up donating my copy. There was nothing wrong with it, but there are just so many books to get to, sometimes you have to let go of the ones you are only kind of interested in. I hope you enjoy any of these titles you end up reading.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds cute and fluffy, like something that would work for me, but there are some scathing reviews out there.
DeleteHmmm.... Nope, I don't think I've heard of any of these!
ReplyDeleteI only did YA today. My adult list is pretty long too, though.
DeleteI'll be no help to you, but I hope you find the perfect books to read!

Most of these are leftovers, which I feel like I should read. I have some reviewer guilt going on combined with a little FOMO. Maybe there's a gem in there.
DeleteI've not heard of most of these. That's why I love memes. I find so many new books and authors through them.
ReplyDeleteI think it's me. I seem to read a lot of obscure books.
DeleteI thought The Academy was cute, but not great. Kind of shallow, unfortunately!
ReplyDeleteI am ok with shallow, if I am entertained and it can make me smile.
DeleteQuestions I want to ask you and what you left me are both on my TBR. Jenn just read Dead Queens Club.
ReplyDeleteGreat list!

Still not sure about those.
DeleteI enjoyed the dead queens club however I am not sure its everyones cup of tea. Its very sassy and over the top but I enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteOTT is ok by me. I read to be entertained. I like stuff that is more fun than heavy, because I am looking to escape a little. If it was fun and entertaining, there is a good possibility I could like it.
DeleteI've seen The Dead Queens Club on several lists this week. I don't know about that one either. I tend to be slow to put books up on my TBR... the ones I often put on it are ones I definitely want to read.
ReplyDeleteI am an add, add, add person, but it doesn't mean I will read the book.
DeleteField Notes on Love is one I've had my eye on but haven't committed to reading either. It sounds good but I just can't decide if it's for me or not.
ReplyDeleteJES was a go-to for me, but Windfall was a little disappointing. Not terrible, but her books seemed to have taken on a little more gravity since Hello Goodbye and Everything in Between, and just aren't as much fun as they once were. Not bad, just different.
DeleteAll of these books are new to me. I can't offer any advice, but I do hope you like them if you read them. It's tricky sometimes to know when you should say yes to something you're on the fence about, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteHere is our Top Ten Tuesday. Thanks for stopping by recently.
There's just so many books I WANT to read, and any negative reviews make me nervous
DeleteI haven't heard of any of these but their cover game is on point! I hope you love the books you end up reading from this list :)
ReplyDeleteYou know me, it's all about the covers. I feel bad for being such a snob, when I cringe at covers, but I like to appreciate some good cover art.
DeleteI wouldn't be able to say as I haven't read any of these myself! But I have read A Study for Charlotte by Brittany Cavallaro and intend to carry on the series myself at some point in the future ^.^
ReplyDeleteI feel like I have read three Charlotte Holmes books, and I should finish it off. I don't know.
DeleteI've been looking at Field Notes on Love too. I'm hearing good things so far but I'm not quite committed to adding it to my TBR just yet.
ReplyDeleteIt's on my TBR, I am just not sure if I am going to read. Though, I probably will at some point, but it will be like it was with Windfall. I waited and read it later from the library. It was just OK for me, and that's the vibe I am getting from Field Notes right now based on the early reviews I have been reading.
DeleteYour read so many try one and see if its your cup of tea. If not DNF it. I want to read The Dead Queen's Club but the rest I am unsure of. I guess I am not help at all. I hope you do enjoy what ever you pick.
ReplyDeleteMary
I got the audiobook for Queen's from the library. So, if I don't like it, at least I didn't spend any valuable reading time on it, right?
DeleteDead Queens Club looks SO good but I have also heard mixed things so... gah, decisions! I think that is the only one on my TBR at the moment. I have been harsher lately though, and asking myself this question: If I was forced to sit and read it right now, would I be pissed? If the answer is yes, it HAS to go!
ReplyDeleteI have decided to listen to Dead Queens. Some people say it takes a while to hit it's stride, which means I would probably DNF if I were reading, but I am a little bit more patient with audiobooks.
