I Want to Go to There (volume 2)!
It's been said, that books take you places, and many of them make me want to climb right in, and join the characters on their journey. Last year, I featured these books, but it seems I read lots of books, that have me wanting to pack a bag and go to "there", even to some of the places I have previously visited. I felt like these authors really went out of their way to pull us into the story by providing rich descriptions of the setting, which left me wanting to experience these places.

- To Night Owl From Dogfish by Holly Goldberg Sloan, Meg Wolitzer (camp!)
- Even If the Sky Falls by Mia Garcia - New Orleans (for the food alone)

Jenna Evans Welch has me wanting to go to both Italy AND Ireland. I mean even more than I did before. :) And France of course!
ReplyDeleteShe DEFINITELY took me on a trip in both those books, but even more so in Love & Luck, and the travel guide made the trip even more fun
DeleteThe bookshop in Words in Deep Blue is definitely one of the bookshops I'd like to go to!! I've heard people getting that wanderlust feel when they read Jenna Evans Welch's books :D

DeleteNorway and China! Yes, definitely count me in! Except in summer for Norway, because I am a wuss when it comes to winter there!
ReplyDeleteI would only want to travel to any place when the weather is to my liking. Dealing with uncomfortable weather is something we have to do, not something we should choose to do.
DeleteI want to go everywhere! I'd love to go back to Italy. Paris is probably #1 on my list.
ReplyDeleteI have actually been to Paris, but would love to see more outside the city. And, I have wanted to go to Italy since I was a freshman Latin student.

DeleteI love Australia (although one of the places I listed that I wouldn't want to go was A Thousand Perfect Notes' Australia). I guess there's good and bad neighborhoods everywhere! I lived in Italy, and while I wouldn't really want to live there again, I might want to visit again.

DeleteI can’t believe that despite living in the South all my life I have never been to New Orleans. I need to work on changing that soon! Like you said, it’d be worth it for the food alone! :)

DeleteI read Love and Gelato, I didnt’ know about Love and Luck. I wouldn’t mind a trip to Ireland, and I can never resist a trip to New Orleans.
ReplyDeleteLove & Luck was a lot of fun. They MCs were making their way to a music festival, and they were following this guide book for the broken hearted, that made each stop a little more fun. I have actually been to all the places Welch described, but would love to go back, as Ireland is gorgeous.
DeleteOh man! I should've found an Australian one too! Mostly because I want to meet some of my Aussie authors! Or at least one in particular since I have met a few of my Aussie authors! Lol! Great picks/places too!

I have only met Kristoff and Kaufman, methinks, but want to see some of the epic sights I know exist in Australia, and look upon the southern hemisphere constellations too.

ReplyDeleteThere are books I read that make me wonder why they bothered pinpointing the location, since everything was pretty generic, but these books really took advantage of the setting and made it part of the story.

ReplyDeleteNew Orleans is probably the most accessible for me, so I should really try to make that happen. The others are a bit out of reach.
DeleteHappy to see Ireland on there! My husband and I went last October for a late honeymoon and I would LOVE to go again. It really is pure magic and the green is exactly how it's talked out in books. I was just sad bc I had been about eight weeks pregnant at the time so I couldn't really partake in all the Guinness like I would have like (I did sneak a few sips, couldn't' resist) hahaha!
ReplyDeleteI went to Ireland about 12 years ago, and I more or less followed the path Welch took. That made the "trip" in the book extra fun for me. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the Guinness tour and lunch in the 360 tower was fabulous too.
DeleteI do a lot of traveling through books. Sometimes it's to a familiar place that I can relate to and sometimes it's a new place that I get to know.

ReplyDeleteI did enjoy Paris. There are so many wonderful things to see, but I would love to see more of the country. I DID make sure we visited Disneyland though, because who knows if I will ever be able to go back.
DeleteI'm happy that both "The Astonishing Color of After" Night Owl are on my TBR. I've heard wonderful things about these two books. Especially about imagery! No wonder you want to go there! :)

DeleteI've been to France many times as it is a neighbouring country to The Netherlands and so close! I love it. And we went to Italy last summer. It was amazing. I've been to China once and really want to go DD: Austrailia is one I have my eye on...
ReplyDeleteAsia will probably never happen for me, but I can dream. I only went to Paris and Disneyland when I was in France and feel that there is so much more to see.
DeleteI totally love when Authors pull you into the world and make you want to visit. This happens to me a lot. France, Italy, Spain. Ohh the places my mind goes. Now to get my body there. =)
