A brand-new contemporary romance from the USA Today bestselling author of Head Over Heels. After her divorce to her cheating ex was finalized, Elle was looking for a one-night fling. She thought she found it, until tall, dark, and broody ended up being her new neighbor and the father of her son's new best friend. With both Elle and Sawyer not quite ready to embark on new relationships, and both trying, but failing, at fighting their mutual attraction, things were bound to get complicated.
Elle and Sawyer just look so happy. Which is, of course, exactly how they end up.
But it's not an easy trip.
It was just supposed to be once.
It was just supposed to be sex.
But now they're next-door neighbors. And before they can put up their fences—or defenses—their eight-year-old sons have forged an unstoppable friendship.
They're still reeling—Elle, from a Facebook message she was never supposed to see, Sawyer, from the kind of death it's hard to live through. A relationship seems like a terrible idea. So they make a deal. One more blazing hot night, at Elle's ex-husband's wedding.
You know, because the "just once" thing has worked out so well for them ...
I pretty much inhaled this book. Bell did such a great job helping me understand what was keeping Sawyer and Elle from taking the plunge. She clearly painted a picture of their grief and anguish as it related to their past relationships, and though I was still really frustrated at times by the two of them, I understood why they made the decisions they did.
Sawyer's story was sad. As a man, who didn't open up to people easily, he believed he deceased wife could never be replaced. He loved her, and always would, and his struggle with finding there was something beyond attraction between him and Elle was a little painful. But Elle's story broke my heart in half. The betrayal was bad enough, but the fact that she still had to interact with her ex on some level due to their shared custody made it that much worse. I found myself wanting to reach out and hug her time and time again.
But you know what? I found solace in the fact, that she had Sawyer, who was a pretty amazing man. Maybe he didn't pour his heart out 24/7, but when he did reveal part of himself or share anything at all, it was really meaningful, honest, and pure. Elle also had two amazing friends in her corner, who gave her so much support, as well as some nudges to move her in the right direction.
Speaking of those friends, I loved Elle's besties and Sawyer's brother so much, I am hoping Bell stays in this world a little longer, and gives them their own books. The ending of Sleepover certainly set up a story for Brooks quite nicely, and I know I would love to read it.
This book was fun, sweet, sexy, and adorable. It made me laugh, swoon, rage, cry. But in the end, it left me warm and fuzzy with a big smile on my face.

I’m a walking contradiction. School principal who liberally drops the F bomb. Fiercely independent yet willing to auction myself off for charity. Serial monogamist who’s down for a no-strings one-night stand.I have previously read some of Hammerle's YA romances, and jumped at the chance to read an adult contemporary by her. Well, the results are in, and I loved this book!
Except now I’ve gone from one-working-ovary to co-parent in the time it took a stick to turn blue.

Ian Donovan may be a richer-than-hell venture capitalist, but he’s no Prince Charming ready to sweep me off my feet. Good thing I don’t need him. I’ve been doing fine on my own for forty years, and I’m not about to start changing that now.
Ultrasounds, swollen feet, midnight cravings? Bring. It. On.
But why is it when you finally swear off men, you meet one who’s too sexy—and determined we can make it work?

Five Things I Loved About Knocked-Up Cinderella
- Erin was a stupendous heroine. Her first appearance on page had me laughing, but she wasn't just funny. She was smart, witty, driven, and independent too. I could totally see myself being friends with her.
- I had zero problems shipping Erin and Ian. I enjoyed seeing them together, because they had it all. They had great chemistry, but they also really talked to each other. They could let loose, and it was obvious how much they enjoyed their time together. Talk about relationship goals.
- I love a good rom-com, and this was a great rom-com. I laughed so much while reading this book. Hammerle did a great job maintaining the tone of the story, while putting in just enough drama, and never forgetting to give us a good dose of heart.
- Let's hear it for heroes and heroines in their 40s! I so rarely read romances with older characters, and it's nice to see people near my age finding love.
- That ending was so, so precious! I love when a book ends on a high note, and this one just had me wiping those happy tears out of my eyes.
My first adult romance from Julie Hammerle was a hit, and I look forward to reading many more.

Are you a fan of one-night stand to HEA romances?

OK sam, just added Knocked up Cinderella to my TBR!!! Sophie @bewareofthereader
ReplyDeleteI was really surprised by how much I enjoyed it. The rom-coms are winning these days for me.
DeleteKnocked Up Cinderella sounds so cute! I love that they are in their 40s too! I would love to see older couples find love in romance book.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you enjoyed Sleepover as well!
I have seen older side characters in romances, but the MCs tend to be on their 20s or 30s, so it was awesome to see an older hero and heroine
DeleteThis is the first I am hearing of Knocked Up Cinderella and I think I need it!!! Great reviews!
ReplyDeleteIt was really fun. I am a fan of the smart, quirky heroine
DeleteFrom one night stand to next door neighbors? Yikes. Talk about tricky!
ReplyDeleteAnd just reading the synopsis of Knocked-Up Cinderella had me laughing out loud. To be honest, it’s not a book I ever would have given a second glance to. I abhor cutesy (or punny) titles and find them a total turn-off. (One of those weird pet peeves, I guess.) But the synopsis has me howling. Maybe I can go the ebook route so I never really have to see the cover. LOL
Great reviews, Sam!
I requested Cinderella, because I had read YA books by the auther, but this was even better than the YA books. A great rom-com
DeleteI love romance novels so much! I haven't read too many books that have featured a one-night stand. You have definitely piqued my interest in these 2 books. Knocked-Up Cinderella sounds like it is going to be so much fun! :)
ReplyDeleteCinderella was lots of fun. The quirky and witty, but also very independent. Loved her!
DeleteSawyer's story sounds super heart breaking. The first book looks like a complete tear-jerker. Love how these two had similar theme but totally different outcomes.
ReplyDeleteIt has sad parts, because both hero and heroine suffered losses, but it's not too weighty. Both were great in different ways.
DeleteI think I need to read Knocked-Up Cinderella soon. I'll have to check my library.

I thought it was so fun! If you are looking for something fairly light filled with lots of laughs, this will deliver.
DeleteKnocked Up Cinderella is on my list. Sounds too fun. And it is wild that both of your choices had the one night stand angle!
ReplyDeleteI never really looked for relationships among my books, but now that I am, it's kind of fun.
DeleteNow I want to read both of these! I haven't read Serena Bell before but I love the sound of Elle and Sawyer's relationship. And how can one resist a such a fun sounding rom com as Knocked Up Cinderella?
ReplyDeleteBoth were great. They were fun and emotional and the endings left me really happy.
DeleteKnocked Up Cinderella sounds so fun! I love that the characters are older.
ReplyDeleteRight! Book featuring older heroes and heroines always stand out to me, because there are so few. Daisy Prescott has a great older hero in one of her Wingmen books, and there are a few others I have read, but cannot think of the names off the top of my head, but the majority feature characters in their 20s or 30s, at least as the featured romance.
DeleteYou have me eager to try both of them. :)
ReplyDeleteBoth were great. I hope you get a chance to read one (or both) of them.
DeleteI am definitely going to have to read Knocked Up Cinderella! I love being able to laugh when reading and that happens rarely for me. So knowing it does the rom-com elements and has loveable characters has me so ready to read it. I love that you 'inhaled' Sleep Over as well. It shows it was just what you needed at the time ^.^
ReplyDeleteI was into the humor. The characters were actually around my age (for once), which was pretty exciting. I have been getting really lucky with rom-coms lately. I have read a bunch that were ok, but leaned too far towards the crude humor side, where Cinderella was just funny and quirky and totally my style.
DeleteOh you had me at heroes and heroines in their 40s! AND funny too! Great review!
ReplyDeleteI know! It's so rare to have older MCs in romance novels. I loved it!
DeleteSleepover I already say Nick review and I am totally interested because it sounds so good. It's so rare you have two MCs who have loved previously meeting someone and falling in love (even if one ended up cheating to end that relationship). I feel like those characters bring so much more baggage and it makes it so interesting to see how they manage to move forward.
ReplyDeleteBut Knocked Up Cinderella is a new one and I kind of want to check it out. I'm not usually ones for pregnancy/babies in books but I could see this one being pretty fun.
I had enjoyed Hammerle's YA romances. They were cute, but I LOVED her adult romance. I did not expect to like it so much, but I adored both characters, and it was a fun rom-com, which also delivered some great feels.
