My Week in Review
Not much here, as usual. The weather is still garbage, and it's still summer. I saw someone talking about needing a sweater where they live, and I a super jealous.

I loved Acevedo's debut, and think her follow-up sounds amazing!

How was your week?
Let us know in the comments!
I'm kinda ready for a cooldown too. I feel like I'm over summer pretty much at this point? :)
ReplyDeleteI like the sound of No Fixed Address. Hidden Pieces I'm really curious about since I've only read one Paula Stokes and I'd like to read more. I want to read Sadie too...
Hope you're having a great weekend!
In the immortal words of Banarama, "It's a cruel, cruel summer." =)
DeleteHidden Pieces is really good. I am 70% through, and as always, Stokes is keeping me entertained, and blowing up my theories too. I love Susin Neilsin, and I always want to read her books, but the topic has me interested as well with No Fixed Address.
Loved that song :)
DeleteBut can you think of that song without seeing Daniel from the Karate Kid ;)
DeleteYes, I actually can, but only because I didn't realize that song was in that movie! Clearly I haven't seen it in a while. :) But I do always think of the video when I hear it! Ah, 80's videos...
DeleteSpeaking of Daniel, I just watched Cobra Kai on Youtube Premium (the first two episodes are free). Oh my the nostalgia...
I had seen trailers for that. It looks hilarious
DeleteYep, I saw someone else post about fall-like weather and I about cried. (As I expect another 90+ degree day with 90% humidity. Ugh!) How to make bookish friends as an adult... how about how to make friends, period, as an adult? LOL Gone are the days of finding best friends just because their desk is next to yours. It's so hard as an adult. I've been meaning to read something by Brittainy Cherry for so long. I feel like I'll love her books, but it just hasn't happened yet. Hope you have a great week, Sam!
ReplyDeleteI have read one Brittainy Cherry book - The Air He Breathes, and it was really good. It had this one part that was a little OTT (think - Letters to the Lost), but it was so emotional. Lots of tears. I belong to this romance readers club, and we get a free book a month, so, what the heck! Yeah, I had a ton of friends in Jax, but have not quite found my tribe up here. All my college friends moved away, and the one I was closest to died in a plane crash when we were 31. I work so far away, that when I am invited out at work, I pass. Making grownup friends is definitely not easy.
DeleteOh gosh, that's terrible about your friend, Sam. I'm so sorry that happened. What a shocking way to lose someone.
DeleteOn a brighter note, I'm more inspired than ever to read something by Brittainy now.
Yeah, you never think you're going to know someone, who dies that way. Horrible. If you need some good, cathartic crying, I would definitely say to read The Air He Breathes.
DeleteOut temps up here in the mountain has been more Fall like than Summer. Our leaves are already falling off and filling the yard. Ugh. I like the cooler weather but normally when the cooler weather starts this early, it means the winter will not be a pleasant one. O'well... lol.. Enjoy your new books and the rest of your Sunday!
ReplyDeleteYOU are one lucky woman. I have total weather envy right now.
DeleteOh nice new reads! Those are all new to me ones but I hope you enjoy each and every one of them!
ReplyDeleteHere's my STS
Have a GREAT day!
Old Follower :)
Thanks!
DeleteYes. I've seen people talk about the cooler weather, and I'm like WHAT? Haha. :)
ReplyDeleteYeah, I was thinking about their cooler weather as the sweat dripped down my back. I only really like fall and spring. I don't do well with extremes.
DeleteI'm ready for fall too. If the weather hadn't been so rainy and gross all summer I probably wouldn't be saying that, but I'm just over it all now. I can't wait to see what you think of Sadie. That's one of my anticipated reads. Hope you have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI think we had no less than three flash flood warnings yesterday. Lots of rain, lots of humidity, and then the other side of the country is on fire. Early buzz is really good for Sadie. I have not checked out the podcast, but I heard it was good too.
DeleteI wish I needed a sweater. I spent the week wandering around Denver, and it was disgustingly hot. I’m ready for fall. There’s a bush in my yard that’s turning yellow. I don’t know if that’s because it’s nearly fall or if I’m just really bad at keeping plants alive.
ReplyDeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I have to carry a thick sweater with me, because it's so cold at work, but when I walk outside, the air settles on me and leaves me damp. I hate it. I am not too sure about your green thumb, but sounds like the bush has had enough of this weather too.
DeleteI need it to be fall, I'm over all this hot weather! So many cute books up there!
ReplyDeleteI feel like making friends as an adult is SO HARD (admittedly, I don't try very hard), but I do talk books quite often with my co-worker.
I don't try hard either. I am friendly at work, but I work 40 miles away. I have no desire to drive that far for a friend. My seat neighbor is great. We show each other videos and she listens to me tell her about the books I am reading/listening too. I even got her to get a library card and she has been reading a book I told her about. But yeah, she lived 40 miles away. Maybe when I am old enough, I will join the senior citizens center, and make some friends there. XD
DeleteI've never seen Wreck it Ralph but the sequel looks hilarious.
ReplyDeleteKaren @ For What It's Worth
Wreck It Ralph was fabulous! It came out quite a few years ago, but I remember it fondly. I had no idea the sequel was going to be like this, but the peek has me pretty excited.
DeleteI’m so tired of the heat. And now there’s a fire near here so there’s so much smoke and smog I can’t breathe! That cover and title of Denton Little’s Still Not Dead intrigues me. I’ll look for your review of it.
ReplyDeleteDenton is such an interesting duology. The first book seems like the long farewell, but at the very end, the entire story is turned on its side. The second book is filled with a lot more action and government plots. It's still very funny, though, which is what I really love about both books.
DeleteNo Fixed Address caught my eye. Fun title and cover. It was kind of cool here Saturday morning but heated back up Sunday. The sun is blistering hot but at least no humidity today. The pool was so refreshing and I'm in o hurry for cold weather.
ReplyDeleteMy Sunday Post
I like Neilsin and No Fixed Address is a MG about homelessness. I am interested in seeing how she tells the story. The coolest it has been here is 74, but it felt hotter even before the sun was out, because the humidity just won't quit. I don't like extreme weather. I like cool, not cold. I like warm, not hot. I'm like baby bear. I want it just right.
DeleteLove and Other Secrets sounds good!
ReplyDeleteI actually had to wear a hoodie this week... Twice! Bit of a shock after the unrelenting heat of this summer but we also got rain! I was so excited, lol.
Have a good week, Sam!
I like Entangled books. They are usually light and cute, and the hero plays sports -- it has a ton of stuff that usually works for me. I am starting it right now, so you may see something on GR tomorrow.
DeleteThe Wreck It Ralph sequel does look fun :)
ReplyDeleteIf it is as good as the first one, it will be fantastic!
DeleteI'm so ready for fall. Curious to get your thoughts on Stripped-I have seen lots of good reviews! Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI will be reading it later in the week. I had a ton of August books to read, but it kept popping up on my GR feeds, and everything people were saying was good. I have trouble passing up a good rom-com.
DeleteOoh I'm so curious about Sadie. I hope that's a good one! The weather where I live is so random - lots of rain/storms but also quite hot on other days. I don't mind if it's hot and I can swim; otherwise, I'm ready for fall. haha
ReplyDelete-Lauren

I grew up in a city, so we didn't really swim, we played in fire hydrants. I get easily bored at the beach or pool. I am hearing all sorts of good things about Sadie, so I am looking forward to reading it.
DeleteI don't think I have seen Wreck It Ralph. I am sure my daughter will want to see the new movie though. Lots of new books this week. I have a copy of Denton Little's Deathdate that I hope to squeeze in sometime soon. I am glad to see that you enjoyed it! Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteRalph must have come out when my daughter was in high school (over 5 years ago), because I didn't really see a lot of movies once she went away to school. I was sort of surprised to hear about the sequel, but they have been going back to old movies a whole bunch lately, so maybe I shouldn't have been.
DeleteOOO you got Hidden Places! I just had that for my CWW! How cool can't wait to see what you think of it. Sadie I heard was good too. I hope you enjoy all the new books. I hope you have a wonderful week.
ReplyDeleteMary Sunday Roundup #31!
Hidden Pieces was really good. It had all the twisty tension of Liars, Inc, but the ending was so much better.
DeleteI am not quite ready for fall to begin yet, but I do love the cozy season. I am not even sure when the next Wreck-it-Ralph comes out, but I am really excited for it as well. The first one really surprised me because it didn't seem like a film I would enjoy at first. I hope that you enjoy all of the books you have lined up this week to read. :)
ReplyDeleteI have been surprised by these sequels, because of the large gaps. The new one releases in November.
DeleteIt has still been hot here in Oregon, nineties which is unusual for us. I will be glad when it cools down. We are also getting all teh smoke from the wildfires. Yuck. So many sequels and books I want to read up there. I am curious about the Paula Stokes book!
ReplyDeleteThe Stokes book was great. Very reminiscent of Liars Inc, but a much better ending in my opinion. It takes place on the coast of your state too.
DeleteI am soooo excited about Wreck it Ralph! I loved the first one! Awesome haul this week. I've heard a lot of hype for Sadie!
ReplyDeleteThe first Wreck It Ralph was epic, and the way they incorporated the princesses in this one has me chomping at the bit to see it.
DeleteOooo, Wreck It Ralph! I don't think I ever saw the first one. O need to check out Acevedo's books! This new one sounds good. Happy reading, Sam!
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely day. =)
Alyssa @ The Eater of Books!
You have to see Wreck It Ralph. It will be a smile on your face.
DeleteI am one of those annoying folks needing a jumper and a blanket where I live lately. It was exciting for me, I'm not gonna lie. Hopefully it cools down soon for you. Wreck it Ralph 2 looks like it'll be a fun sequel, I'm really excited for it. If you figure out how to make bookish friends IRL please reveal your secrets, I haven't got a clue. Maybe I should start hanging around the library and talk to everyone who enters? I'm seeing everyone with Stripped on their lists lately as well. I have heard awesome things so you better tell me if it's good. I can't even preorder as currently it's showing as £12 for an ebook, what is this?
ReplyDeleteHope you have a good week and read all the good books!
I think I officially live in rainforest. I can't wait for sweater weather. I always want to talk to people I see reading, but I am too shy. I don't like to put myself out there IRL, and therefore, fail at making (bookish) friends. 12 pounds is obscene for an eBook. Holy cow! I think you can get a fat, hardcover for that amount of money.
Deleteoh yay! I really really really LOVED Poet X so I'm so happy to see more is coming!
ReplyDeleteI think I might hold out for the audiobook with her next release, because I watched her performing and I feel like it would be amazing to listen to her read her book.
DeleteYou know, I totally thought it was called Denton's Little Death Date - I still feel betrayed by the realization that the title was actually Denton Little's Death Date... I still want to read it though. :D
ReplyDeleteFunny that you say that, because Grace (Rebel Mommy) actually stated that in her review.
DeleteOoh yes, I am so happy you enjoyed Denton's Little Death Date as I want to read that one! I hope you are enjoying the sequel and that you will enjoy Sadie as well, because I am anxiously anticipating that read too. I really liked The Poet X and can't wait to read what the author has in store for us next.
ReplyDeleteThe whole premise of Denton is so intriguing, and it really made me think. Plus, it was hilarious. The sequel was good, not as good for me as the first book, as the story took a real turn into hardcore dystopia, but still good.
