Star hockey player Daniel Sacachelli wants only two things: 1) for the Falcons to win next season, and 2) for his secret — the fact he’s actually the prince of Eldonia — to never make its way to Chicago. But if Daniel keeps avoiding his crown, their family will lose their kingdom forever.REVIEW
Madison Myong can’t believe that her will-they-or-won’t-they best friend Daniel is really a prince! He’s always seemed more rebel than royal. But now, he needs to clean up his image, fast. Posing as his long-time girlfriend, Madison accompanies him back to Eldonia, intending to give Daniel a makeover fit for a king.
Only, the more royal Daniel becomes, the more Madison misses her best friend. And if she does her job right, she’ll lose him forever...
This book was a little bit of this
And some of this
Which left me with a whole lotta this
I just re-read my review for the previous book in this series, Just One of the Boys, and I have to say, I am harboring many of the same thoughts about this book, which is a positive thing.
I had adored Madison in the last book, because she was such a fantastic friend to Al, and I was happy that she was getting her own romance. I was also excited to see she was getting paired up with the resident bad boy, Daniel. They had a really close friendship in the previous book, but I wasn't sure if the attraction went both ways. The doubt each experienced made me a little nutty, but I did enjoy seeing their friendship evolve, and they ended up being great together.
I was pretty surprised by the royal storyline, but I have to admit, I loved it! I read this book the day of the the royal wedding, so I was already sort of swept up in royal-mania. This just added to the fun. We got to travel to the small, European country of Eldonia, where we attended many events and saw Daniel try to live up to his princely title. Like many "suddenly royal" type stories, Daniel committeed many faux pas, but he also worked really hard to redeem himself, because in the end, it was all for his family.
The family theme was quite strong in this book, and I always like when there is a solid family focus. The interactions between Daniel and his sister were very merry and heartwarming, and we also got to spend a lot of time with Daniel's Falcon family. Bromances can be a most splendid thing, and that was totally the case in Just One of the Royals.
Just One of the Royals also really delivered on what I want in companion novels. Not only did we get to catch up with Al and Hayden, they were featured in this book. It's not the first time, and it won't be the last, that you hear me say how glad I was to see what happened "after". AND, I think the next match will result in lots of fun. The heroine is sassy, while the hero is a little on the shyer side. I know I am excited to see how that one works out.
Overall: It was a lot of fun being back with the Falcons! The Roopers gave us another super cute romance with a fun royal twist.

Looks adorable. I really like these companion novels that are becoming so popular.
ReplyDeleteI have nothing but love for companions, because I can read them out of order, skip some, and catch up with previous friends too.
DeleteThis looks utterly and completely adorable!
ReplyDeleteThe series is totally adorable and fun. I thought this book was a great addition to the series.
DeleteI love books about royalty, and so many have been popping up on my radar lately! Great review.
ReplyDeleteThe royal part was different from many books I have read, and I liked it. It worked with what I already knew about this character too.
DeleteLove the gifs to describe this one, Sam! :) And I love that it covers so many themes like friendship and family - and the royal twist sounds so fun!
ReplyDeleteHow did we ever live without gifs?!
DeleteI didn't realize this was the second in a series at first - that's cool the royal aspect wasn't revealed until this one! Glad to hear you enjoyed it. :)

The beginning recaps the last book, but the story is wholly its own.
DeleteI love that you read this the day of the royal wedding! I also love that the love story was great! Great review!
ReplyDeleteIt was quite the serendipitous timing.
DeleteAwe, this sounds super adorable! Love the Royal aspect too.
ReplyDeleteThe royal angle is interesting in this one, and it played out quite well. I really loved how the Roopers made the team such a big part of it.
DeleteOh, this sounds like a fun read!
ReplyDeleteI am fan of the characters from the first book, and the royal stuff just took the fun up a notch.
DeleteBoth books in the series were really cute. Sometimes I love myself a light and breezy read, and this one fit the bill plus there were some feels.
ReplyDeleteYes, for strong functional families! This sounds delightful Sam.
ReplyDeleteI am so glad to be seeing more and more awesome families in YA, because, you know, they do exist.
DeleteThis sounds like such a fun read. I'll have to keep it in mind the next time I'm in the mood for a sports-themed read. Pretty sure I've never read one with ice hockey in it. Also, yay for the family focus!
ReplyDeleteLight and fun with lots of heart. It was a satisfying way to spend a few hours.
DeleteYou know how I love a hockey book! This sounds great :)
ReplyDeleteYou know what I like? The Roopers actually have some hockey in their books, and they really capture the whole "team" thing well too.
DeleteI haven't read the first one but there is a special place in my heart for novels featuring hockey and I have no idea why. lol I'll have to check these out!
ReplyDeleteI am trash for hockey romances, so this was a great fit for me.
