Mischa Abramavicius is a walking, talking, top-scoring, perfectly well-rounded college application in human form. So when she's rejected not only by the Ivies, but her loathsome safety school, she is shocked and devastated. All the sacrifices her mother made to send her to prep school, the late nights cramming for tests, the blatantly résumé-padding extracurriculars (read: Students for Sober Driving) ... all that for nothing.Reasons why I want to read this book:
As Mischa grapples with the prospect of an increasingly uncertain future, she questions how this could have happened in the first place. Is it possible that her transcript was hacked? With the help of her best friend and sometimes crush, Nate, and a group of eccentric techies known as "The Ophelia Syndicate," Mischa launches an investigation that will shake the quiet community of Blanchard Prep to its stately brick foundations.
- When I first read this synopsis, How I Got Into College, popped into my head. It was a very funny teen movie from back in the day, which showed all the stress associated with applying to college and waiting for those acceptance and rejection letters. This movie was hilarious, so if the book is anything like it, it will be fun.
- Of course I want to read Kaplan's new book, since my prior experience was such a good one. I was a fan of Kaplan's debut, Grendel's Guide to Love and War. This book was so much fun, but also very heartfelt. I loved the characters and really enjoyed the book.
- There is something in the blurb that has my curiosity piqued as well. What are they investigating? How will it shake the school up? Inquiring minds want to know.
- Girl hackers, a conspiracy, possible unrequited love -- it all sounds like parts that could add up to a great whole package.
A thin envelope was the kiss of death.
What are you waiting on?

DeleteOooh yaaas! I've never heard of this before, but now it's going on my TBR! I love girl hackers, plus I just the experience of receiving the nerve-wracking college acceptance letters. I'm hoping this book's both witty and deep!
ReplyDelete- Aimee @ Aimee, Always
I only applied to one school, so I only experienced this vicariously though my daughter, but it was still stressful. That is exactly what I like - both fun and deep. I am all about balance.
DeleteBut it's even better. It's a gang of girl hackers.
ReplyDeleteThis is the first time that I have heard of this book. It sounds like it has a lot of amazing elements. Yay for more upper YA novels. I am finding that there are so many of them releasing these days. :)
ReplyDeleteKaplan's last book incorporated some interesting and different elements, and I was pleasantly surprised to see she is doing that again.
