#MapMonday: Winnie Ille Pu - A.A. Milnei

When one moves, lots of lost things are found, and one gem that I found was my copy of Winnie Ille Pu. No, that is not a spelling mistake, it's Winnie the Pooh translated to Latin.

I was very excited to find this book, not only because it has a cool map inside, but also because it is very special to me. I received this book from my Latin teacher in the late 80s, when I was taking independent study Advanced Latin. I was pretty excited, because Ovid and Caesar were very boring, and well, this was Winnie the Pooh. It was also a gift from one of my favorite teachers, Magistra Elm. She shared her love of languages with me, and encouraged me to keep studying Latin, even when there was no class at my level. I attribute my high verbal SAT score to her.

When my daughter was born, she had an instant affinity for Winnie the Pooh. I remember once hearing her making sounds that sounded like the Winnie the Pooh theme song. So, I will always associate Pooh bear with my daughter.

I am also touched by the story behind this book, as it was Milne based it on his own son.

And that is why this book is one of my treasures.

Do you have any extra special books?

    1. Thank you! I love #SignedBookSunday and #MapMonday, but I always like to give a story with it, and it was fun looking at old pictures of my daughter, because she's all grown up now.

    1. I miss my baby so much! She just grew up too fast. I read a lot of contemporaries, so not a ton of maps, but I love the Hundred Acre Wood, and was excited to find this book during my move.

  3. One of my daughters loved Pooh but the other didn't want anything to do with Pooh. Of course, we had lots of Pooh movies, clothes, and toys that were never touched by the second child. This book is quite the treasure! Thanks for sharing the story behind it.

    1. I am such a Pooh lover, and I was happy my daughter loved him so much too. I always got a little sad when my daughter didn't embrace those things I held so dear when I was a child. (no to Sesame Street, no to Mr. Rogers, no to Barbie)

  4. Okay, I am straight up swooning at your daughter and her love for Winnie the Pooh! So, so adorable! And that copy is amazing, I am SO glad you found it! The map is so gorgeous, too. I don't think I have any *really* special books- unless you count my THG and Catching Fire ARCs, which actually, I guess they are? Maybe the Australian Luxury editions? But nothing really from my younger days, save The Baby-Sitters Club books ;)

    1. I think it's awesome that you still have books from your childhood. One book I wish I had held tight to, was my Hans Christian Andersen illustrated fairy tale book. It was a gift from my grandmother and it was beautiful.

  5. Omg! My oldest daughter was all about Winnie the Pooh as well. I mean her first word was Pooh. I know she was talking about the character because she was looking right at her stuffed Pooh when she said it.
That map is pretty amazing. I love when books have maps. I mean, I would buy maps from book to decorate my house if I could. That book was a great find. Thanks for sharing!

    1. Awww. That is so sweet, and she really had a lot of love for the bear. I am a contemporary reader, so not a ton of maps for me. I was seizing the opportunity to participate in MapMonday.
