A contemporary novel about a girl whose high school production of A Midsummer Night's Dream leads her to new friends—and maybe even new love.If you saw my post this past Friday, you would know that Mills is an author that I feel like I really need to read. I did buy one of her books, so chances look good, but this book totally caught my eye.
The day of the last party of the summer, Claudia overhears a conversation she wasn't supposed to. Now on the wrong side of one of the meanest girls in school, Claudia doesn't know what to expect when the two are paired up to write a paper—let alone when they're both forced to try out for the school production of A Midsummer Night's Dream.
But mandatory participation has its upsides—namely, an unexpected friendship, a boy band obsession, and a guy with the best dimpled smile Claudia's ever seen. As Claudia's world starts to expand, she finds that maybe there are some things worth sticking her neck out for.
First, the cover is bright and graphic and I was immediately drawn to it. Then there is the title. Did someone say hearts? When I see the word "heart", I think we may have a little romance going on in the book, and you know who loves romance?
The synopsis also hints at the main character going on a journey of self discovery, and those stories are always winners for me. I love the idea that we can become the best versions of ourselves, that we can grow and change, and if this book does a little of that, I will be quite happy.
There's also a school play, and we know how much fun putting on a school production can be. All those things add up to me being excited to read this book.
What are you waiting on?
Let us know in the comments!
What a fabulous cover and you had me at A Midsummer Night's Dream which is one of my favourite Shakespeare plays... My Can't-Wait Wednesday is a YA sci fi adventure set in Austin Texas right now - https://sjhigbee.wordpress.com/2017/09/27/cant-wait-wednesday-27th-september-2017/
ReplyDeleteI don't think I have a favorite Shakespeare play, but I always loved his sonnets.

DeleteI am very excited for this one. Her covers are always the best!!
ReplyDeleteAll her covers are quite artistic and abstract. They give mood, but no other hint to the story.
DeleteA bunch of my friends got an early copy of this book. It sounds absolutely amazing, I can't wait to read it myself.
ReplyDeleteI hope we both enjoy it :)

Well, a bunch of your friends are really lucky and I am jealous. I do hope we both adore the book and can share only fangirl type praise for it.
DeleteUmm yeah, you have GOT to read Emma Mills' books! They are so delightful and I'm so excited to read this one as well. And I love all her covers! They are always bright and eye-catching.
ReplyDeleteI KNOW! I totally just said that in my post the other day. 😝 I have always wanted to read her books, I just never one until recently. The Candid Cover calls this post "Wishlist Wednesday", which is so appropriate, because these are books I wish I had.
DeleteI love stories about schools that do Shakespeare plays, especially A Midsummer Night's Dream!
ReplyDeleteI was only in one play in high school, but it was a such a fun thing to be a part of. Now turn that up to level 10, since this is fiction, and we have the basis for a great story.
DeleteI'm really looking forward to this one. I loved Mills' last book, and she has the best covers!
ReplyDeleteThat's it! The Mills book I have is going on next week's TBR. I publicly stated I had to try a book of her's, all her books sound like I will love them, you all are encouraging me to read her. I will do it!

I honestly thing I stop to read the synopsis for this book solely based on the cover.
DeleteReally cute cover. I don't know if I'll get around to this one or not, but I do like that they are doing a Shakespeare play. :)
