Sundays with Sam - The Sunday Post

Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer, where I can share my wrap up of the past week, as well as plans for the current week.

My Week in Review

Last week I complained about the weather, so this week, I am going to show some gratitude. Yesterday was the day we left our home of 16 years, and I bit my nails all morning as the forecast called for rain. But Murphy's law was not ruling my life for once, and we actually had a great day. Overcast, but low humidity and in the 70s. Winning! And now, I am kind of like

My current situation is total chaos, but at least my bed is made. I have decided to just unpack the things I need right now. I am being loaned out to another team at work to help with some initiative, so I cannot take time off right now, BUT as long as I have my clothes and shoes handy, it should be ok. I don't want to complain, but it would be nice to have some skills like Mary Poppins ....

I read a blog post this past week, that mentioned how nobody wants to read book reviews on book blogs. I then cried and rocked in a corner, because I like to review and talk about books. I guess I will continue screaming into the void.

Last week on WLABB:
What I Read Last Week

I had a rather pleasant reading week. My top read was Dress Codes for Small Towns. I absolutely loved it. Every character was interesting, and the book was funny, touching, and thought provoking. I finally read one of the three Emery Lord books I own, and I really did enjoy it, but I am starting to think she likes to leave her endings a little open, which we all know I am not a huge fan of. In fact, three of the books I read this week did the open-ended thing. They were still good/great reads, but needy-greedy me wanted more.

What I Am Currently Reading

I am currently listening to Torn Between Two by Mia Kayla. I really liked Everything Has Changed, and I am hoping this one is just as good. I am also reading Taming the Rebel, which I am finding quite fun right now, and I am loving the summer camp setting.

What I Plan to Read

I need help coming up with books for two of my challenges. For one, I need a book with a non-Western setting. I had wanted to read The Epic Crush of Genie Lo, but my co-blogger took that book to school, and I will have to wait to read it. I also need a book in which the season, the elements, or the weather plays a role in the story. I got nothing here. Any ideas? My reading week looks like a contemporary binge, but no apologies from me, it's my fave.

How was your week?

  1. Wow, moving time huh? It's stressful moving, best of luck with an orderly transition! And yes Mary poppins sorting skills would be quite handy right? Oh and I know some bloggers say that they don't like to read or write reviews, but I love both. I totally like reading other people's thoughts on books, so I don't think that's representative of all bloggers at all.

I liked the Secrey History Of Us too. Have a great weekend!!!

    1. Yeah! Another review lover. Glad there's two of us. 😆 I really enjoyed the Secret History of Us. I loved where the author took this amnesia story and its overall message, I just wanted more at the end.

  2. I hope your life situation will improve soon! I hate moving and not knowing in what box you put some one item...
Whaat...who wrote that no one likes reading book reviews? o.O Okay I'll admit that I don't always have the time to read that many blogs but I still like reading book reviews of the books I like and also books I might like :)

    Yay for 7 books :)

    1. The box scene is quite disheartening , but like Tim Gunn says, I will have to make it work. I don't even remember the blog, but it was about being a creative blogger. I find the creativity is really in the bloggers personality, because how many posts do you see that are so original? It's the person's voice that keeps me coming back.

  3. Oh..I hate moving, I'm just not good in organizing things especially if there's a lot to organize hehe. But I hope you'll sort everything out soon ;)

Taming the Rebel sounds really good. Can't wait to read your review soon.

    1. I am really enjoying Taming the Rebel. The I like that there is a lot more to the hero than meets the eye.

  4. Haha I will never complain about a rainy day, because rain is my favorite weather.

    Good luck with your unpacking!

    1. I don't mind rain if I have nowhere to go, but moving in the rain would have be awful.

  5. Hey, that's not true :) we do need reviews! It's just easier to relate and react to discussion posts, that's all. But where would we be without reviews?
Also, if you figure out those Mary Poppins skills, let me know. I would not mind having a skill set like that myself :D
    Good luck with the boxes!

  6. Moving is so much work. Glad the weather held out and hope you get time to get settled soon. Glad you loved Dress Codes for Small Towns. I am excited for that one. I loved When We Collided but yes on the endings of her books. Have a great week!!

    1. Dress Codes was really, really good. I wasn't going to request it, but then I saw a glowing review from someone I follow in GR, and she as right. Give me a cast of colorful characters and I will be happy with my reading experience.

  7. Book blogs (and Goodreads) are the only place I want to read reviews because I can trust what is being said there. I'm not sure why people poke around book blogs if they don't want opinions on books...

    1. Right? I followed blogs before I was asked to blog here. I like to read reviews AFTER I read the book, and see what people thought or if I missed something when I read it. Since I have no local reader friends and there are no book clubs around here, that is how I get my book talk fix.

  8. Arghhh I can't even imagine moving house! Good luck with everything. :') Have a great reading week, Sam!

    1. When I lived in Jacksonville, I moved a bunch of times. From my parents to a golf course apartment, then to a beach apartment, then back home while I waited for my home to be built, and then to my home. But, after 16 years in the same place, you get lazy and let stuff accumulate. But at least there will always be reading on the train to escape.

  9. I despise moving. If I were rich, I'd always just pay someone to pack and unpack for me. (I usually somehow sneakily manage to get my parents to help me out haha I'm terrible!). But yeah, just go with the flow and unpack slowly when you need the things.

Ugh. Honestly, those "no one reads book reviews" posts come out like every 6 months, which annoys tbh, because it's false. I'm still here reading book reviews, and I know many others are as well. I say, just continue to do your thing! No crying needed! It's obvious you love it! :D

When We Collided was so good! I'm glad you loved it. I'm going to read The Secret History Of Us this week. I hope I like it!

Have a good week ahead! :)

    1. Funny, this is the first move that was not a relocation. Maybe that is why it was such a struggle. I am so glad for all the feedback about reviews. I felt like I was the only one who still thought they were relevant. Emery Lord certainty knows how to write a great book, now if she would only tie up the endings a little more. There have been a lot of amnesia books lately, but I thought Secret History had its own spin on it, and I really enjoyed it. My issue was the ending. I wanted more with that conclusion, because I was really happy about it.

  10. Moving sucks so at least you got there alright and with all your stuff. Unpacking is horrible but you're definitely going about it the right way.

And I feel like every so often people start saying 'no one reads reviews' and I say screw them. Maybe they don't, they will never be my most popular feature but I love getting other people's thoughts on books and reviews bring new books to my attention and help motivate me to pick ones up that have been on my shelf for far too long.

    Have a good week.

    1. I love reviews. Goodreads is my favorite social media site, and I read tons of reviews, especially after I have read a book.

  11. Molly E Lee has a good series called Love on the EDGE. Book 1 is Edge of Chaos and its about a group of storm chasers. They are in college studying meteorology!

  12. I had a very busy week last week and was so everwhelmed with everything and yes, I get how you feel. You seem to be having a very busy week with all the moving. Oh yeah it exhausting. Did it several times. I hope it goes as you hope.

Enjoy your new books. They look yummy especially One Snowy Night by Jill Shalvis. Been wanting to try her books for months! Hopefully next month.

    Have a wonderful week. :)

    1. I am reading the Shalvis right now. I don't normally do novellas, but I really wanted the details on this relationship, and Shalvis always satisfies me. If you like contemporary romances with some depth, low angst, not too much drama, and a great friend group, you would enjoy these. I have always liked the settings - from Lucky Harbor to Sunshine, Idaho, she always creates these places I want to live, filled with people I want to know.

  13. Moving is no fun at all. We are dreading it. We have started looking for a new house to buy, and I don't want to have to pack up everything and move it. 2 out of 4 dogs hate car rides, so there's that too. Although you have some really great books coming up to read that will take your mind of having to unpack. :)

    1. Packing and unpacking is the worst, but at least it encouraged me to get rid of a lot of stuff I have not touched in many years. Good luck with your move, and I hope the digs do ok in the car. 😊

  14. So glad the weather cooperated for the move! And now all that unpacking... ugh! Such a pain, but it'll get done. Eventually. :) Um, nobody wants to read book reviews on blogs? *knocks hand against head to clear the confusion* I enjoy reading book reviews. And I enjoy writing them (well, usually LOL). What an odd statement that was on that blog. *still scratching my head* I need to pick up After the Game like yesterday. And getting a review of Under the Lights would be nice, too. Ha!

    1. Are you going to read After the Game? Just asking because I know you were loving Under the Lights. I am trash for Glines. My mindless, guilty pleasure books. I love reading/writing reviews too. Glad I am not in the minority.

    2. When it comes to Abbi's Rosemary Beach series and ate it up like candy. LOVED IT. But I'm not finding the same with The Field Party series. I've disliked all 3 main male characters so far. :( They're all coming across as jerks who treat girls pretty poorly. But I have After the Game for review so I definitely have to read and review. Fingers crossed I like it better than the other two.

    3. I hope you like it too. I loved the first hero, and the second one grew on me, as we got more of his back story and he grew too. I am intrigued by the third book, because of the scandal aspect. Both Rosemary Beach and Sea Breeze were my version of bon bons.

  15. Oh gosh, I hate moving. It's always so chaotic. It is nice though once all of the unpacking is done and you're all settled in.

Also, count me in as someone who enjoys reading reviews on book blogs so you're definitely not alone.

I still have 13 boxes of books to deal with, and we cannot cook in the kitchen yet, but I feel like there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

  16. Nobody wants to read book reviews on a book blog! That is crazy, we all must be doing in wrong then!!

Hope you get your boxes unpacked eventually, the last time I moved I had boxes that were unopened a year later!

    1. Ha! When we were moving, we found sealed boxes in the basement from when we moved in 16 years ago.

  17. We moved into our house 16 years ago...and I couldn't imagine boxing it all up. Just thinking about it stresses me out. I am glad the weather cooperated with your move.

I thought the whole point of a book blog was to discuss and review books? Am I wrong?

    ReplyDelete

    1. I guess the new thing is not reviews, but discussions. I think it was the same post that poo-pooed memes. I love them, because they give me a different way to talk about books I love.

  18. We moved over a month ago and still haven't unpacked all of our boxes. Hopefully, everything will be unpacked by the holidays. And there are still plenty of folks who enjoy reading book reviews on blogs. I hate when one person tries to speak for the masses.

    1. I am glad I was just being overly sensitive to the reviews thing. I don't think I will be unpacked by the next holiday (Sept), but maybe by Thanksgiving (Nov). Seriously, I need to work on my book problem. I miss my wall to floor shelves already.
