My Week in Review
It's more or less Groundhog Day here, but I did do something that made me happy. I bought myself an early birthday gift, and booked a ticket to NC to visit the kid in October. Other than that, read, worked, packed.
On the blog:
- Monday: I reviewed Lucky in Love by Kasie West
- Tuesday: I shared a Top Ten Tuesday list of 4th of July inspired covers.
- Wednesday: My Can't Wait Wednesday pick was The Chaos of Standing Still by Jessica Brody
- Thursday: I reviewed Aftercare Instructions by Bonnie Pipkin
- Friday: I reviewed In 27 Days by Alison Gervais
- Saturday: Amrutha and Val were reading A Short History of the Girl Next Door by Jared Reck on Stuffed Animal Saturday
What I Read Last Week
I read a lot more than I thought I did, but I think it was due to the fact that I read all contemporaries. My standout read was How to Disappear. I'm not going to lie, I thought this was a mystery or thriller or something like that, but it was this really charming contemporary which starred a girl with social anxiety. I just loved it! Another pleasant surprise was Piglettes. This is actually a translated story, set in France, and written my a French author. I was using for a reading challenge and enjoyed it immensely.
- Piglettes by Clémentine Beauvais - ★★★★
- Wesley James Ruined My Life by Jennifer Honeybourn - ★★★★
- All Things New by Lauren Miller - ★★★★
- The Wright Brother (audio) by K.A. Linde - ★★★★
- How to Disappear by Sharon Huss Roat - ★★★★ 1/2
- Tied Up in You by Erin Fletcher - ★★★ 1/2
- Tangled (audio) by Emma Chase - ★★★★
- Artificial Sweethearts by Julie Hammerle - ★★★★
What I Am Currently Reading
I am about halfway through Click'd. It is a middle grades book, which I wanted from BEA, because I love the author. I am only a few minutes into It's OK, I'm Wearing Really Big Knickers, but I know I'll love it. I fell in love with Georgia when I saw the movie, Angus, Thongs, and the Full-Frontal Snogging (great soundtrack!). In that rare instance, I went on to read the book, and still loved Georgia. I am happy to be catching up with her.
- Click'd by Tamara Ireland Stone
- It's OK, I'm Wearing Really Big Knickers by Louise Rennison (audio)
What I Plan to Read
- Seven Ways We Lie by Riley Redgate
- Meddling Kids by Edgar Cantero
- Trust by Kylie Scott
- Wicked Like a Wildfire by Lana Popović
How was your week?
Let us know in the comments!
Ahhh, Meddling Kids sounds brilliant doesn't it? Sort of reminded me of a grown up version of an Enid Blyton book when I first saw it, so I am looking forward to your review!
ReplyDeleteI just googled Enid Blyton. I only know Noddy (because they made that into a TV show). Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys looks like it may have been the equivalent of her series here in the states. Even the art reminded me of Nancy Drew.
DeleteWow what a great reading week!! I can't wait to get to All Things New soon. I loved The Seven Ways We Lie so hope you enjoy it. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteIt's so odd, that I have read at least 4 books centered around MCs with anxiety issues recent weeks. It's the universe, it's trying to tell me something. I liked Noteworthy, so I am hoping I like Seven Ways too. You have an awesome week too.
DeleteWow, you read loads! I only read 2 books last week. Was an incredibly busy week.
ReplyDeleteI've read that Big Knickers book when I was 15 maybe xD I thought it was silly back then, though. Although funny.
I've seen Wicked Like A Wildfire around the blogs, that sounds like an exciting read!
Have a great week :)
Georgia amuses me and I sometimes want that release to just be silly. I read such dramatic books in my youth. Maybe I would have been happier if I read more fun books. 😄 I read during my daily commute, that is 3 hours, and I wake up really early too. I usually read for that 2.5 hours since everyone else is asleep and I need to be quiet.
DeleteSounds like you had a great reading week. :) I'm clocking in at least 1-2 books a week, if I'm lucky LOL.
ReplyDeleteI love the cover for Wicked Like Wildfire.
Hope you have a great week! ~Aleen
I have a super long commute and that is where I do most of my reading. I like it, because I find mass transit or any traveling for that matter, stressful. Reading keeps me from getting too anxious. So win-win.
DeleteOhh you had such a great reading week, that's awesome! I hope you'll enjoy Seven Ways We Lie, I really liked that book. I'm eager to read Wicked Like a Wildfire, hope you'll love it as well! Happy reading :)
ReplyDeleteRedgate did good by me with Noteworthy, so I thought this was worth reading for my challenge. It's getting a lot of love here today, so yay! Wicked Like a Wildfire sounds really great, and although I have no business starting a new series, I will read it anyhow.
DeleteOooh! I love Scooby Doo! I hope you enjoy Meddling Kids!
ReplyDeleteHere’s my Sunday Post!
Ronyell @ Rabbit Ears Book Blog and join in this week’s Book Photo Sundays!
Scooby is still the best!
DeleteYep, meddling kids sounds totally Scooby Doo, I still love him now!!
ReplyDeleteI mean, if I was flipping channels and Scooby Doo came on, I would probably stop and watch. I remember eagerly waiting a whole week to see the next episode of that show.
DeleteIt looks like you had a great week in reading! Nothing below 3.5 stars, that's awesome. I loved Wesley James Ruined My Life - such a fun book. :D I hope you enjoy all of your new books, Sam!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful week. =)
Alyssa @ The Eater of Books!
I was starting to feel bad for Wesley at one point. That girl was tough. Totally my kind of read.
DeleteGreat reading week! I am going to check out Meddling kids! it sounds great. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI should be reading it soon. I never really read middle grades before, but I have to say, the authors are turning out some great stuff for that age group, and it is interesting to see how they present certain things to a younger audience.
DeleteHow To Disappear does look like it might be a thriller or mystery, I can see that. Glad it was good though regardless! And yay for the Mystery Machine! I got a kick out of seeing that...
ReplyDeleteThe Scooby gang will always hold a piece of my heart.
DeleteI bet Tangled was hilarious on audio. Yay for booking a trip and I am sure the kids will be happy to see you. Have a wonderful week.
ReplyDeleteThe narrator was fabulous! Just perfection, and Chase always cracks me up. I am trying to cram that trip into see see my daughter before she starts her practicum and has no time, and I am excited because I have never gone 4 months without seeing her before.
DeleteYou got through a lot of books this week. Impressive. I am really curious about the new Kylie Scott book and will be looking forward to your review. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI always like to see how an author translate to a different age group
DeleteThat's a nice early birthday gift for you!! You read so many books I want to read too. The Meddling Kids is on my tbr and it sounds like a fun read. I hope you have a great week!
ReplyDeleteIt is quite terrible when your kids grow up and are far away. I thought the 4 years at Syracuse were bad, but that was close enough and easy enough to drive for a quick visit. NC, not so much. The loan for North of Happy just came through, so I will be pushing Meddling Kids by a day or so, but I should have it done this week.
DeleteWow, what a great bookish week you had, Sam! How to Disappear sounded really interesting when I read the synopsis last week. Glad you enjoyed it! Happy reading. :) I'm currently reading Flame in the Mist! <3
ReplyDeleteCass @ Words on Paper
How to Disappear absolutely caught me off guard. Totally loved it. I have had my eye on Flame in the Mist, but I am such a sucker for contemporaries, I keep pushing SFF books out of the way for it. 🙄
DeleteThat's great that you already have a NC visit planned. Something to look forward to. :) I see that you listened to one by Emma Chase on audio last week. I'm actually listening to one right now (Royally Screwed) which is my first ever by Chase. So far so good. I seriously loved Trust by Kylie Scott. I've never read any of her adult romances but I sure loved her foray into YA. And your Mystery Machine got me totally nostalgic. Loved that show as a kid!
ReplyDeleteI actually requested Trust because I kept seeing so many great reviews, and I am excited to hear you liked it to. I feel like one of the reasons I read YA is for the nostalgia, so when I saw that book and it triggered the Scoobies for me, I knew I had to read it.
DeleteAre you liking Meddling Kids? So far I've seen two bloggers I trust not care for it and now I'm worried. I still plan on reading it though but am anxious to hear your thoughts. Congrats on your early birthday gift!
ReplyDeleteI have not started it yet, but I will definitely post my thoughts her next week and on Goodreads some time during the week
DeleteSomeone at Amazon made a mistake because I ended up with my preorder of Lucky in Love early. I'm planning to get to it maybe next week and can't wait to fall in love with another Kasie West novel. Wicked Like a Wildfire sounds so interesting. I can't wait to hear your thoughts on that one. Have a lovely week!
ReplyDeleteYay for mistakes! Enjoy your new KWest book. I hope you like it.
