My Week in Review
Things I learned this week:
- The drive from NJ to NC and back is dreadful. That DC area is no fun.
- I am happy I will not have to do that drive again until May of next year.
- One accumulates a LOT of stuff in 16 years
- I do not like packing
Other than that, went to work, read some books. Going to my sister's for a duel celebration today - late Father's Day and my niece's 21st birthday. So, I will eat cake!
On the blog:
- Monday: I review Who's That Girl by Blair Thornburgh
- Tuesday: We hosted a tour stop for Why I Loathe Sterling Lane by Ingrid Paulson and at the last minute put together a Top Ten Tuesday sharing some books I had added to my favorites shelf because I was so caught up in everyone else's TTTs.
- Wednesday: Noor told us that she Can't Wait for This is Not the End by Chandler Baker.
- Thursday: I reviewed Coming Up for Air by Miranda Kenneally.
- Friday: I reviewed If Birds Fly Back by Carlie Sorosiak.
What I Read Last Week
I did a miserable job sticking to my weekly TBR. I just needed to go with my mood, so I moved some books around. I did not read as much as I usually do, but did get to listen to an entire audiobook on the ride home. I was really happy with Sparks of Light as Taylor turned up the swoon in this one, and I was so surprised by Love and Other Alien Experiences. I enjoyed it so much, and went into it with no expectations.
- Rules of Contact by Jaci Burton (audiobook) - ★★★★
- Lucky in Love by Kasi West - ★★★★
- Love and Other Alien Experiences by Kerry Winfrey - ★★★★ 1/2
- Sparks of Light by Janet B. Taylor - ★★★★ 1/2
- Sweet Filthy Boy by Christina Lauren (audiobook) - ★★★
What I Am Currently Reading
Right now I am listening to Hail Mary, which is really fun so far. Confession: I kept passing this audiobook by on Hoopla, because the cover! I am such a cover snob, and this one is kind of ridiculous, but I am glad I gave it a chance. I like that the heroine is boxer and the opening scene is hilarious. I am also reading Piglettes, which I had randomly downloaded on Edelweiss. I am so onboard with the concept and am loving the main protagonist. She is very witty and sarcastic, but I have a feeling there is a lot underneath all of that.
What I Plan to Read
- Wesley James Ruined My Life by Jennifer Honeybourn
- All Things New by Lauren Miller
- How to Disappear by Sharon Huss Roat
- The List by Patricia Forde
How was your week?
Let us know in the comments!
Glad you survived the drive! Doesn't sound fun. :) Hope you have a relaxing week and a nice 4th of July!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear Sparks of Light was good, I remember wanting to read Intothe Dim, the tiem travel element sounded kinda good.
I really liked the time traveling element, because she involved Tesla, and he is awesome (he appears in this book). The last book took place in 12th century England, and this book takes place in Victorian NY. I forgot how awful the living conditions and social conditions were during that time period.
DeleteWeekly or monthly TBRs are so hard to stick with, I can never really do it :) I'm such a mood reader! So it's completely natural :D
ReplyDeleteI know! I had been doing fairly well, but with all the disruptions in my normal routine, I guess I just needed to shake it up
DeleteOmg I do not envy you having to drive through DC! I have to drive between NC and FL semi-often and Jacksonville is pretty bad, but not DC bad!I 'm super interested in Sparks of Light so I'm glad to see you enjoyed it! Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteHere's my Weekly Recap!
Wait! You're in JVille! I lived in Jax Beach 95-01. I miss it so much. Sparks of Light was a must read for me, because I really enjoyed Into the Dim. I found Taylor's look at the racial climate and treatment of people with mental illnesses quite interesting. And, there was so much more swoon than the last book, so that was a total win for me.
DeleteI hate any drives of any sort, so I feel you. I'm not a fan of packing either. It's too much work for my lazy self. LOL!
ReplyDeleteMood reading is honestly the best. I sometimes try to go with a schedule, but I wind up not enjoying the books, so I just go with the flow now!
I'm excited to read All Things New!
Happy reading and I hope you have a great July! :)
You're talking to a girl who only drives on the weekends. I take the bus/train/shuttle to work, because I hate NJ traffic. At least I don't have to do that heinous drive again until May 2018.
DeleteYES. WE use to do that drive from NJ to NC and later from FL to NJ. Ugh. We are going to NC this month, but from here it is 24 hrs of driving so we opted to fly. I am a mood reader, and I find mixing genres really helps. Hope you have a delightful week!
ReplyDeleteI am going to fly when I visit, but with moving to had to drive 😞 I have been trying to genre mix, but I found I am happiest reading contemporaries
DeleteI'm glad you enjoyed Lucky in Love by Kasie West. I don't know how it happened, but she's become one of my favorite contemporary authors. I'm really curious to see your thoughts on Wesley James Ruined My Life when you get a chance to read it. I'm a sucker for the hate-to-love trope. Hope you enjoy all the cake!
ReplyDeleteI love all the tropes 🤣. West is one of my faves. She just gets that balance thing right. It is ice cream cake, so not bad. 😉
DeleteOh! That's a lot of great books you got there! I really love the cover of Rules of Contact!
ReplyDeleteHere’s my Sunday Post!
Ronyell @ Rabbit Ears Book Blog and join in this week’s Book Photo Sundays!
Romance books have the best covers 😉.
DeleteI'm a total mood reader, so I feel you with the difficulties in sticking to a set TBR. Janet B. Taylor isn't an author I'm familiar with, but I'm very intrigued now!
ReplyDeleteI found Taylor through her debut, Into the Dim, which I really enjoyed. I have yet to read a time traveling book I didn't like, and both time periods she focused on were interesting.
DeleteGlad you don't have to do that drive again anytime soon. Long drives are no fun!
ReplyDeleteNicole @ Feed Your Fiction Addiction
Long drives = the worst
DeleteGlad you made it home safely. I've heard the traffic is bad in DC so it's good you won't have to deal with it until next year. You have so many books I want! Love and Other Alien Experiences and the List sound really good. And I have the audiobook for Hail Mary too and now I need to listen to it soon. I hope you have a great week and Happy 4th of July!
ReplyDeleteEven getting off 95 and and driving around DC is a nightmare. I don't know how people who work in southern Maryland and Northern Virginia do that. Love and Other Alien Experiences really surprised me. I didn't have high expectations for it, and I loved it so much. Hail Mary is pretty funny. I just started it yesterday, and I mostly listen while I am at work. It's what I expect from a schmexy sports romance, and I really like the heroine. Yes! Hot dogs for all tomorrow. =)
Delete"I do not like packing." SAME. Hubs enjoys it, so whenever we move, he packs and I unpack.
ReplyDeleteYou had a week of great reads! I'm intrigued about Hail Mary because you're right, that cover is...not for me either. I look forward to seeing what you think of it.
I wish I had your husband her to pack for me. It seems like endless packing, between moving the kid her after 4 years in Syracuse, then packing her up for NC, and now packing mine and her remaining things. Ick! Hail Mary is pretty funny so far. I really like the heroine, and I want to know more about her. There is a past that is intriguing me.
DeleteLong drives and moving are not a lot of fun. I don't even want to think about trying to pack up my house. I have Into the Dim and think I need to start reading the series since you liked the new book so much.
ReplyDeleteI thought it was an interesting time travel book. I definitely like that there was more swoon in the second book
DeleteI agreed to read Hail Mary before the cover was revealed or I would have felt the same way. But, I am glad I read it-it was great!!
ReplyDeleteGlad you won't have to make that drive for awhile. I used to drive from NC to Ohio and that was horrible enough. I can't imagine having to go through DC!
Now NJ to Ohio is great. Crossing PA is a breeze. I like Hail Mary, I just wish there was more story, because the beginning, before they got physical, was so promising
DeleteUgh, driving thru DC is always miserable - I don't care what time of day it is. The cover of Piglettes is so adorable. I'll have to look that one up since I haven't seen it before. Hope your week is off to a great start, Sam!
ReplyDeleteMy week is off to a great start. Work one day, one day off. 😀 Piglettes was a french YA novel, that was translated to english. I saw it as a download without request from Edelweiss, and I was like "why not!". I liked it a lot more than I thought I would. It was funny and sweet and I always find it interesting to see how social commentary is inserted into books written by authors outside of the US.
