Sunday Post - Weekly Review

Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer, where I can share my wrap up of the past week, as well as plans for the current week.

My Week in Review

My week was filled with work and reading. We were and are busy moving house. This will be a long process, as we have been in this home for over 16 years. I am also getting my daughter ready to move to North Carolina for graduate school. Translation: my house is a mess! I am looking forward to getting the boxes packed and restoring some order.

This was a special week, as it saw a post from one of my co-bloggers. I am happy they are back and ready to blog. WLABB is also participating in some Bookstagramming challenges, so check them out here. Other posts this week:

And there is still time to enter and win an ARC of The Reader by Traci Chee.

What I Read Last Week

I read five books and listened to two audiobooks. I knew I would enjoy the audiobooks, as they were both Lucky Harbor books, and I simply adore the series. My favorite reads were two books I had already featured and were bothy highly anticipated: Aftercare Instructions and Kissing Max Holden. Both delivered what I was looking for, with Aftercare surpassing my expectations.

What I Am Currently Reading

I am currently reading The Names They Gave Us and listening to The Bet. This is my first Emery Lord book, although I own all BUT this one. I have heard such wonderful things about Lord's writing, so when I saw the book available on Overdrive, I had to download it.

What I Plan to Read

I plan to work through some of my July ARCs. I have been looking forward to some of these for a while, but held off on reading until closer to publication date.

How was your week?

    1. I have only heard good things about Lord in general, so I am pretty excited to read it.

    1. I hoped it was going to be good, but it was even better, and I thought the writing was fantastic. Pipkin's phrasing and word choice really brought the story to life. There were times when reading the sentences pulled me right into Gen's head and had my heart pumping or my stomach plummeting.

    1. The Hating Game was fun, and I loved digging below Josh's surface. He was so wounded, but really had a good heart. I am not too far into The Bet, but so far it has a lot of that signature Van Dyken humor.

  5. You sound busy. :) Best of luck with the moving preparations! The Hating Game is one I've thoguht about reading, and Waste of Space- I need to see what that's about! That cover has me really curious...

    1. Waste of Space is about a teen reality show where the kids are at space camp, and then something goes terribly wrong. When I was younger and saw the movie Space Camp, I thought it would be cool to go. This has the possibility of being a a good book.

  6. Oh moving is such a hassle! We just moved into our house last year and it was such a process. We had stuff at the house we had been renting, plus stuff that was still in storage from when we lived in NC. It was exhausting. Hope you are able to get through the process quickly and easily!
    Have a great week!

    1. Moving is the worst, but the thing is we are moving walking distance away, and we will have access to the new place a full month before closing. So, I can slowly move stuff in and leave the big items for the movers.

    1. It'll be crazy until mid-August probably. Then I can settle in and enjoy.

  8. Wow! I am impressed. You are moving and still found the time to read 5 books. Just thinking about moving stresses me out.

    1. Well, that's why I read, to escape the stress. =P

  9. Wow, that's a lot of upheaval at home. I'd be desperate to be settled and have everything sorted out as quickly as possible. I have The Names They Gave Us from the library right now and yet I am still on the fence about reading it. The religious aspect makes me wary as I haven't always had great luck with books that have a religious theme. I actually have 5 or 6 books out from the library right now so I need to do some serious reading!

    1. The move is making me nuts, and then having to get the kid settled in NC is just adding to the crazy. I just finished The Names They Gave Us on the train, and the MC does experience this spiritual crisis, but it's a catalyst for her coming of age. Her religious beliefs play a role, but a small one. It's her summer of uncovering truths about her mother and finding herself. It was quite lovely. I was a little miffed about the ending (open ended-ish!!!), but I really liked it, and feel motived to read the other Lord books I own.

  10. Ohh man moving is so stressful. I hope you get everything packed and organized. I enjoyed The Hating Game by Sally Thorne I am glad that you like it. I have heard a lot of great things about The Names They Gave Us I can't wait to see your review! Have a great week!

    1. I will tell you right now - 4.5 stars for The Names They Gave Us. I know I am saying the ended was open. It was open in the sense of the things that were going on, but I guess Lord did give us closure on the major point of the whole story, which was Lucy's coming of age, but there was a major loose end that I could not forgive.

  11. Woah! So much moving is happening! I am moving out of my apartment and back into my parents' house so I know what you mean. I'm home now and moving everything around so I can fit more of my junk from my apartment. My lease is up on June 30th so I'm scrambling. The house is a mess! My apartment looks nice and empty though. :D

I really want to read The Hating Game! I've seen nothing but great reviews for the book. Maybe if it comes on sale on Amazon. :D

Have a wonderful weekend, Sam! =)
