First and foremost, to all our fathers out there:
My Week in Review
It's like Groundhog Day here. Pack and store. Pack and store. Lots to get done before driving the kid to school this week, but at least I read some really great books. Since I will be on my road trip this upcoming week, I don't anticipate reading as much, but I hope what I do read will be high quality.
On the blog:
- Monday: Discussion Post - Where Have All the Stars Gone?
- Tuesday: Blog Tour/Giveaway - Internet Famous
- Wednesday: Can't Wait Wednesday - Laura Ingalls is Ruining My Life
- Thursday: Review - A Court of Wings and Ruin
- Friday: Review - Saints and Misfits
- Saturday: Stuffed Animal Saturday - Brooding YA Hero
What I Read Last Week
I finished one audiobook and 4 books. My standouts were The Names They Gave Us and This is How it Happened. Names was a lovely coming of age story. This was my first Lord book, but will most certainly not be my last. I was really excited to read the Stokes book. I am a fan, and am in awe of her ability to genre hop and do it so well. This book explores internet shaming, and really resonated with me and my love/hate relationship with some social media sites.
- The Bet by Rachel Van Dyken - ★★★
- The Names They Gave Us by Emery Lord - ★★★★ ½
- Waste of Space by Gina Damico - ★★★ ½
- Who's That Girl by Blair Thronburgh - ★★★ ½
- This is How it Happened by Paula Stokes - ★★★★ ½
What I Am Currently Reading
I may actually be finished with my book, In 27 Days, by the time you read this, but I can say so far, so good. I love this idea of getting a second chance to express your feelings, and maybe save someone. I only have an hour left of my audiobook. The second installment of this series is not narrated by Kristin Bell, but I think the narrator is doing a good job, and I keep getting teary-eyed every time Logan and Veronica's relationship is the focus. Forever team Logan!
- In 27 Days by Alison Gervais
- Mr. Kiss and Tell by Rob Thomas
What I Plan to Read
- Today Will Be Different by Maria Semple
- I See London, I See France by Sarah Mlynowski
- The Wendy Project by Melissa Jane Osborne
- Changes in Latitude by Jen Malone
How was your week?
Let us know in the comments!
Loads of good ones :) I've heard about This Is How It Happened, it does sound quite interesting.
ReplyDeleteThis is How it Happened was so good. This online shaming happens every day on Twitter, and I really liked the way Stokes dealt with it in her book.
DeleteLooks like you had a great reading week!! Glad you loved The Names They Gave Us too. I tried to listen to the new Maria Semple and couldn't get into it. I think I need to just try and read it maybe. Hope you enjoy it and the other books. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI am sort of disappointed with what I am hearing/seeing on GoodReads. Semple's new one has fallen below my required 3.5 stars mark, so now I am on the fence.
DeleteHope you have a great week and enjoy those on your TBR pile! :)

Week in Review
Thanks!
DeleteHappy Father's Day and great set of books you got there!
ReplyDeleteHere’s my Sunday Post!
Ronyell @ Rabbit Ears Book Blog and join in this week’s Book Photo Sundays!
Thanks! I am pretty excited to eat the ice cream pie I bought at Baskin Robbins for our Father's Day dinner. Yum!
DeleteI'm kind of impressed too with Stokes and how not only is she prolific but yes she does seem to genre hop amazingly well! I didn't even know she had this one coming out! The Names They Gave Us is supposed to be pretty good, from the reviews I've seen.
ReplyDeleteChanges in Latitude looks nice too. And I'd like to read/ watch Veronica Mars one of these days...
The Names They Gave Us was very good. The ending seemed a little jam packed, and though I understood Lord's choice at the end, I needed some closure with this one thing, but still, it was so good. You need to watch VMars!! That show was the best! It ranks up there with Buffy for me.
DeleteYou have certainly had a productive reading week. Love the cat Gif.
ReplyDeleteEngrossed in a good book
Pusheen is one of my faves.
DeleteWow, what an amzing reading week. I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts on This is How it Happened <3

I loved This is How it Happened. I would recommend all Stokes' books.
DeleteThese are all new to me but they do have pretty covers! Enjoy your week and happy reading :)
ReplyDeleteHere's my Sunday Post :)
I absolutely judge books by their covers, so I would say the majority of what I read have pretty covers.
DeleteWoah. Four books in a week? I wish I could do that but ARGH uni. :/
ReplyDeleteI understand the school responsibilities. My co-bloggers can contribute again, because they are on break. I read during my commute, and it's pretty long (3 hours total), so I get a lot of reading done.
DeleteI was sick last week very sadly and I wasn't able to get much reading done however I did finish You're Welcome Universe which I absolutely adored! Sounds like you had a super awesome week Sam!

I read YWU a while back and enjoyed it as well. I loved the art and the incorporation of street art and deaf culture. Glad you are feeling better! =)
DeleteEnjoy your road trip. Packing doesn't sound like a lot of fun though. I hope you enjoy all of the books you get to this week. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed there are no whammies tomorrow when we leave for NC. I just wish we had been able to get in touch with housing about moving in a few days early, since the program starts on Thursday, but housing move-in is on Sunday. =(
DeleteI'm not usually that big on contemporary but I've heard so many wonderful things about Emery Lord that I think I'll have to try her stuff out! What a bummer that the second VM audiobook isn't narrated by KB...I loved the first one when I listened to it.
ReplyDeleteI know, hearing KB narrate made it seem like I was really in VM world, but the narrator did a good job. I was impressed with Lord's book, and will now make a better effort to read the other ones I already own.
DeleteI have heard a lot of great things about The Names They Gave Us I will need to check them out. Also, I didn't know the Veronica Mars book was narrated by Kristen Bell the first one I will need to check it out. Have a great week!!!
ReplyDeleteI didn't know Bell was the narrator until I was listening to it. It was quite a nice surprise. I really enjoyed The Names They Gave Us, and will definitely read more from Lord.
DeleteHope the road trip is going well/went well. For your book bingo, haven't you already read Words in Deep Blue? That would work for Author from Another Continent.
ReplyDeleteTraffic in Maryland made us lose an hour, but NC is really lovely. Now I am Eloise, living in a hotel until the kid can move into the dorm on Sunday. The book bingo resets every season. This board is June, July and August, and I read the book back in April like the little impatient beast I am. *sorry, not sorry, because it was so good!*
